CHINA—We always prayed before going out on the street to share the gospel, but nothing ever seemed to happen. Disappointed, we wondered how we could continue the pioneer work of church planting.
One day after our usual prayer session, a church member rushed to our house church and asked for prayers for her sick husband. She was crying, and we understood the situation was critical. So we changed our work plan and ran to her home.
Mr. Chan* was very ill and weak. We prayed for him and sang some Christian songs. Despite his weakness, he smiled at us and looked better after our prayer. After praying for him for a week, he improved enough to speak with us. Although Mr. Chan is not yet a Christian, he desires to know more about Jesus and is studying the Bible.
This experience taught us that we need to focus on the people who are closest to us–our nonChristian family members who need to hear about Jesus. In Acts 16:31, we are promised: “Have faith in the Lord Jesus, and you and your family will have salvation.”
